Register a Food Drive or Fundraiser

Individuals, schools, churches, and organizations can all play a part in providing holiday meals for Hays County (see ideas). We challenge you to organize your own Turkeys Tackling Hunger food drive of fundraiser. Do not hesitate to contact us by email or at (512) 392-8300 x230 to brainstorm ideas. Also take a look at our Food Drive Toolkit.

Once you solidify the details of your food drive or fundraiser, you can register it with us below:

How can your school get involved?

  • Pin the Feather on the Turkey: Challenge your class to donate to decorate one of HCFB’s turkey posters with feathers. Assign a different dollar amount to feathers of various shapes and sizes.
  • Turkey Coin Bank: Decorate a water jug like a turkey and encourage students to fill it with change.
  • Classroom Competition: Have each classroom choose a food item to donate. Then, assign each classroom a catchy name like ‘Mr. Price’s Pumpkin People’ or ‘Mrs. Swan’s Sweet Potatoes’. Compete to see who can help their community the most - the classroom that collects the greatest number of items wins!
  • Football Game Food/Fund Drive: Invite Wishbone the turkey (Hays County Food Bank’s mascot) to attend a game to collect food or funds.
  • Student Organization Competition: Have a competition between student organizations to see who can sponsor the most families in need (each family = $30).
  • Bake Sale Fundraiser: Sell seasonal baked goods (pumpkin, cranberry, oh my!) to raise funds.
  • Raffle Fundraiser: Get local businesses to donate prizes and raffle them off for funds for our cause.
  • Hold a Run or Walk: Get participants to look for food sponsors instead of money sponsors. Ask parents, friends of parents, neighbors, teachers, or even local grocers to be sponsors.
  • Administration Costume Challenge: Get your principal, vice principal, or favorite faculty member to agree to wear a turkey costume if your school reaches a designated fundraising goal. You can reserve your turkey costume here

How can your church get involved?

  • Pass the Plate: Designate one or more Sundays to “pass the plate” for Turkeys Tackling Hunger donations. Let us know if we can provide you with envelopes for collection.
  • Lobby Food Drive: Contact us to check out a donation barrel to place in your lobby during the holiday season.
  • Sunday School Class Competition: Have each Sunday school class choose a food item to donate. Then, assign each class a catchy name like ‘Mr. Price’s Pumpkin People’ or ‘Mrs. Swan’s Sweet Potatoes’. Compete to see who can help their community the most - the classroom that collects the greatest number of items wins!
  • Bake Sale Fundraiser: Sell seasonal baked goods (pumpkin, cranberry, oh my!) to raise funds.
  • Raffle Fundraiser: Get local businesses to donate prizes and raffle them off for funds for our cause.

How can your organization get involved?

  • Organization Competition: Have a competition between organizations to see who can sponsor the most families in need (each family = $30).

  • Raffle Fundraiser: Get local businesses to donate prizes and raffle them off for funds for our cause.

  • Holiday Meal Sale: Cook up a scrumptious meal and sell plates. Feel great knowing that whatever profits you make will help families in need receive a holiday meal of their own.
  • Costume Challenge: Get your organization’s president to agree to wear a turkey costume at a public event if you reach a designated fundraising goal. You can reserve your turkey costume here.
